In May 2016 staff and service users went on holiday to York, England.

The reason we went to York was because the service users had been given the choice of 3 locations and all 5 of the service users and their family’s picked York.

Some of us travelled by minibus with all the luggage, food and equipment that we needed while others travelled by train then getting a taxi to the caravan park on arrival in York.

We stayed at the Weir Holiday park just 8 miles from the city centre and it was easily accessible by bus into York. The caravan park was lovely and quiet with a lovely river and waterfall adding to the peaceful atmosphere of our surroundings.

Before going on holiday we had a few discussions about who would be sharing a caravan with whom and the groups that all had been agreed, worked well. Both the caravans were equipped with everything that we needed and we quickly unpacked and settled into our new home for the week .

Prior to going on holiday we had looked up the internet to see places of interest to visit while on holiday and added to the information brochures in the caravan we managed to visit somewhere new every day which suited everyone on holiday.

Favourite places were the Train Museum and the Chocolate factory both in York and The Deep in Hull which we turned into a whole day trip outing again using the train and minibus as method of transportation.

York minster was visited by some of the party as a few others chose to have a quiet day midweek and just stay around the caravan park. Those that went to the Minster thoroughly enjoyed the visit especially one service user who loves anything historical.

On another day we all went to York Castle Museum which gave us a chance to look back in time and to look at old style shops, classrooms and police cells.

The staff provided the usual high quality food that we are all used to with the help of the local Chinese and Chippy.

The local supermarket was just a walk away for all our snacks and treats and the local pub wasn’t too bad either.

Everybody agreed at the end of the holiday that York was a lovely place to visit and would definitely like to go back.
